Obesity has rapidly evolved into a widespread health crisis affecting individuals across the globe. People try numerous remedies and tips to shed excess weight, yet achieving weight loss goals is rarely simple for everyone. However, some individuals manage to reduce their weight successfully by adopting proper dietary habits. One such inspiring journey belongs to Dr. Shubham Vats. Sharing details about his transformation, he noted that at 33 years of age, his weight had touched 110 kilograms. Through a video shared online, he detailed the exact methods he used to bring his weight down.
How the Weight Loss Journey Began
With his escalating weight, he began experiencing several adverse health complications, including pre-diabetes, constant fatigue, severe tiredness right upon waking up, a rigid abdomen, acidity, bloating, sugar crashes, low daily energy levels, and poor sleep quality. Despite facing these warning signs, he kept ignoring them for a long time. The turning point in his life arrived when a patient remarked that he was carrying excess weight himself and should consider reducing it first. Taking this frank remark as a challenge, the doctor made a firm resolve to shed the extra pounds and initiated fundamental changes in his lifestyle. Through dedicated efforts, he brought his weight down from 110 kg to 75 kg, successfully losing a total of 35 kilograms.
The Critical Role of Protein in Diet
The doctor pointed out that people often overlook protein deficiency, which actually serves as a primary driver of weight gain. When the body lacks adequate protein, its metabolism begins to slow down because protein is essential to maintain muscle mass. Muscles are the specific tissues responsible for absorbing glucose and burning calories. When individuals fail to consume 20 to 30 grams of protein in every meal, the metabolic rate drops. Furthermore, consuming excessive refined oils, processed foods, and fried items along with irregular meal timings disturbs the digestive system, ultimately leading to weight gain.
Dietary Adjustments and Lifestyle Changes
To successfully bring down his weight, he implemented specific structural changes to his daily diet and routine.
First, he incorporated insulin-friendly meals into his diet since he was in a pre-diabetic state. He understood that unless insulin resistance was broken, sustainable weight loss would remain out of reach. Consequently, he kept his breakfast high in protein and low in carbohydrates, which effectively reduced blood sugar spikes and food cravings.
Second, he completely stopped using processed refined flour. He explained that items made from refined flour exacerbate bloating, intense cravings, and post-meal lethargy, particularly for individuals with sensitive digestive systems. Dr. Shubham Vats replaced refined flour items with eggs, paneer, grilled chicken, makhana, and chickpeas. These dietary modifications significantly enhanced his digestion, reduced abdominal discomfort, and eliminated daytime sluggishness after meals.
Third, he fixed his meal timings. Previously, staying hungry for long durations often led him to overeat during subsequent meals, which increased calorie intake and hindered weight loss. To counter this, he adopted a morning routine consisting of lemon water followed by a protein-rich meal. Eating balanced meals at regular intervals helped him keep food cravings under strict control.
Fourth, he controlled his evening calorie intake. The doctor noted that metabolism and digestion slow down considerably after evening hours, making the consumption of heavy foods a major contributor to rapid weight gain. Recognizing that his heavy nighttime meals had contributed significantly to his weight gain earlier, he switched to light and easily digestible food options after dark.
