Arriving in theaters on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Ajay Devgn's suspense thriller Drishyam 3 secured a massive box office debut while shattering multiple early weekend records. Behind the impactful storytelling, customized adjustments for Hindi-speaking audiences, and an unexpectedly strong climax stands director Abhishek Pathak, who has earned widespread recognition for his handling of the franchise. His progression from film student to leading director reflects a rich professional and personal trajectory in Indian cinema.
Early Education and Global Film Training
Born on July 1, 1987, Abhishek Pathak is the son of Mangat Kumar Pathak, a seasoned producer in Bollywood. He completed his foundational collegiate studies at Mithibai College in Mumbai. Driven by a desire to master the art and craft of visual storytelling, he subsequently moved to New York to pursue a specialized course in formal filmmaking.
The Panorama Studios Legacy and Filmography
Upon concluding his education in New York, Abhishek returned home to Mumbai and joined his father in business operations. Mangat Kumar Pathak went on to establish Panorama Studios in 2019, an entity that developed and backed numerous prominent cinematic projects. Under this banner, an extensive catalogue was produced, featuring titles such as Omkara, Sunday, All The Best, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Aakrosh, and Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. The production house also backed Special 26, Alone, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Drishyam, Raid, Section 375, Khuda Haafiz, and Drishyam 3.
Behind-the-Camera Debut and Early Accolades
Abhishek launched his cinematic career in 2006 as an assistant director on the Ajay Devgn-led short project titled The Awakening. Transitioning into writing, he penned the 2009 short film Boond, a project that earned a National Award. In mainstream commercial filmmaking, he stepped into production duties as an executive producer on the 2006 feature Omkara.
Transition to Producer and Feature Directing
By 2011, Abhishek stepped into independent feature production with the hit youth comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama. He spent the next eight to nine years deeply entrenched in the industry as an active producer across multiple projects. In 2019, he took his official leap into feature direction with Ujda Chaman. Across his directorial portfolio so far, he has directed exactly three films: Ujda Chaman, followed by Drishyam 2 and Drishyam 3.
Close Brotherhood with Ajay Devgn
Of the three feature films Abhishek has directed, two have starred Ajay Devgn. This collaborative dynamic stems from decades of close personal and professional associations. Abhishek's father, Mangat Kumar Pathak, managed Ajay Devgn's affairs for several years, fostering a family-like bond. Having commenced his own career alongside Devgn, Abhishek shares a fraternal connection with the superstar, whom he affectionately refers to as Bhaiya.
Personal Life and Family in Entertainment
Abhishek Pathak married actress Shivaleeka Oberoi in 2023. Shivaleeka previously starred in Khuda Haafiz, produced under Abhishek's family banner. Abhishek's mother is Neelam Pathak, while his sister, Amita Pathak, is also an established creative professional who has worked across the industry as an actress, model, and film producer.
