As he prepares to portray celebrated Indian innovator Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu in an upcoming biopic, Madhavan has addressed the persistent online criticism and political labels directed at him. During promotional interactions for the project, the actor responded to social media users labeling him a Sanghi, clarifying his independent political stance and reaffirming his commitment to depicting authentic stories without political bias.
Addressing Social Media Labels and Political Neutrality
In a detailed conversation on Galatta Plus, the host brought up how social media users often label Madhavan as a Sanghi and asked how he navigates such online commentary. Responding to the query, the actor explained that every individual functions according to their personal upbringing and core values. He shared that he was raised from childhood to take pride in his country and act in the national interest. Commenting on the current digital landscape, Madhavan pointed out that it is no longer difficult to distinguish genuine social media users from coordinated paid bots.
The actor also addressed past online trolling regarding his silence during student protests. Madhavan stated clearly that he does not align with or support any political party or political leader, nor does he share content on their behalf. However, he emphasized that when an individual is democratically elected as a Chief Minister or Prime Minister, citizens ought to support them in their governance for the nation's progress. He noted that while he reads online comments, such feedback does not alter his personal judgment or decisions.

Similar claims were raised against Rocketry, the biopic of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, which Madhavan directed and for which he won a National Award. Critics had targeted him as overly nationalist for depicting the scientist engaging in religious prayers in the film.
Expressing confusion over these allegations, Madhavan stressed that he avoids political discourse in his public life and finds the criticism unwarranted. Defending Dhurandhar, he explained that the narrative was set against the backdrop of Pakistan and highlighted its repercussions on India. He questioned how presenting such a narrative could be construed as political propaganda.

He explained that since Nambi Narayanan visited temples in real life, depicting his faith was essential to portraying the truth. In contrast, for his upcoming biopic, he noted that innovator GD Naidu was an atheist, meaning the character will not be shown visiting temples.
