The legal proceedings surrounding the January 2025 knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan have taken a significant turn as the accused, Shariful Islam Sheikh, has offered to confess to his crime. Sheikh, who was arrested following the attack, submitted an application before the Mumbai Sessions Court declaring his intention to plead guilty.
Application Expressing Remorse and Seeking Minimum Punishment
In his written plea presented to the court, Shariful Islam Sheikh stated that he feels deep remorse for his actions and is fully prepared to admit his guilt during the trial. Alongside his confession offer, the accused urged the court to take a lenient view of his situation and award him the minimum possible sentence under the law.
Court Seeks Prosecution Response, Next Hearing Set for September 11
Following the submission of the guilty plea application, the Sessions Court noted the development and directed the prosecution to submit its formal reply. The court has scheduled the next hearing in the case for September 11, when further arguments on the plea will be heard.
