Actor Sanjay Dutt has issued a fresh explanation regarding his recent public remarks concerning the atmosphere of peace in India, clarifying that the words he spoke on a television program were entirely based on a pre-written script. The actor addressed the discomfort expressed by audiences and fans, stating that the comments delivered during the broadcast did not reflect his personal ideology or emotions, but were merely part of an acting routine designed for entertainment.
The Talk Show Appearance and Controversial Dialogue
The controversy emerged following Sanjay Dutt's appearance on the talk show Shekhar Tonight, hosted by Shekhar Suman, which was broadcast around the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. During the conversation, the actor commented on the atmosphere in the nation, expressing that while the people of the country are wonderful and there should be peace, he no longer feels that historic sense of peace within his homeland. He praised the large-hearted and hospitable nature of Indian citizens and added that he prayed to Lord Shiva for those earlier times to return.
Within the same segment, adopting the persona of his popular cinema character Munna Bhai, Dutt reflected on what measures he would undertake if appointed Prime Minister of the country for a brief duration of five minutes. He also referenced Mahatma Gandhi's iconic philosophy of the three wise monkeys, proposing that contemporary society now requires a fourth monkey that actively steps forward to correct wrongs upon witnessing them rather than remaining passive.
Public Disagreement and Actor's Video Clarification
Following the broadcast, clips of the remarks began circulating widely across digital platforms, prompting criticism and debate among viewers. Several people expressed shock at his assessment of the nation's atmosphere, while many directly registered strong disagreement with his words. In response to the growing public discussion, the actor released a direct video statement addressing fans and critics in Hindi.
In the video message, Dutt acknowledged that numerous individuals had reached out to him over social media following his appearance on Shekhar Suman's show. He noted that while several people were surprised by what they heard, others expressed firm dissent. He stated that he fully understood their feelings and emphasized that everything spoken during the segment was part of a scripted performance. As is customary on such programs, he explained, actors perform according to predefined lines, and none of those lines represented his personal convictions.
Previous Social Media Post and Call for Context
Prior to releasing the video clarification, Sanjay Dutt had shared a statement on X to explain the context of his statements. In that post, he noted that his comments originated from a script written with lighthearted and comedic intent. He stated that the fundamental objective was to convey harmony, affection, and mutual solidarity, reminiscent of the Gandhigiri ideals popularized by his film Munna Bhai.
The actor lamented that his words had unfortunately been separated from their original context, leading to widespread misinterpretation. He stressed that he deeply values the affection and trust of his audience and did not wish for a scripted routine to distort perceptions of his authentic views. Concluding his clarification, the actor folded his hands and signed off with the patriotic salute Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.
Support From Show Host Shekhar Suman
As the controversy unfolded, show host Shekhar Suman also came forward to defend the actor's intentions. Suman urged audiences to evaluate Dutt's statements within the broader context of the episode rather than in isolation, noting that the actor holds immense respect for his country and fellow citizens. With this second round of clarification, Dutt has reiterated that his dialogue was purely professional performance work rather than an expression of his personal political or social viewpoints.
