Canara Bank Revises ATM Transaction Rules: Free Monthly Limit Cut and Charges Increased

Canara Bank has implemented revised ATM transaction charges and reduced monthly free limits for savings account holders effective September 1, 2026. While fees for extra cash withdrawals and failed transactions due to insufficient funds have been hiked, senior citizens' limits remain unchanged alongside a reduction in Green PIN regeneration charges.

Public sector lender Canara Bank has implemented a revised fee structure and updated transaction limits for ATM usage, effective September 1, 2026. Under the new guidelines, the bank has lowered the monthly quota of free ATM transactions available to its savings account holders. Additionally, transaction charges levied beyond the permissible free quota—such as cash withdrawals and transaction failures resulting from insufficient account balances—have been revised upward. However, senior citizens retain their existing allowances, and the bank has provided relief by significantly lowering the Green PIN regeneration fee.

Revised Monthly Free ATM Transaction Limits

According to the updated operational parameters, regular savings account holders are now entitled to 5 free ATM transactions per month, down from the previous limit of 6. This monthly cap encompasses both financial transactions (such as cash withdrawals) and non-financial transactions (including balance inquiries, mini-statements, and PIN modifications). In contrast to the reduction applied to regular savings accounts, Canara Bank has preserved the transaction benefits for senior citizen account holders. Senior citizens will continue to receive 8 free monthly ATM transactions without any modification.

Higher Fees for Cash Withdrawals and Failed Transactions

Customers utilizing ATMs beyond their allotted monthly free quota will face increased charges for financial and non-financial operations. The fee for cash withdrawals at Canara Bank ATMs past the free limit has been raised from ₹20 + GST to ₹23 + GST. The bank highlighted that this increased rate also applies to cash withdrawals executed through UPI at ATM terminals. Furthermore, any non-financial transaction executed beyond the monthly quota will attract a service charge of ₹5 + GST per attempt.

A notable increase has also been applied to transaction failures caused by insufficient funds in a customer's account. If a transaction fails due to inadequate balance after exhausting the free limit, the penalty fee has been increased to ₹23 + GST, up from the earlier charge of ₹17 + GST. This updated fee applies uniformly to failed attempts made at Canara Bank ATMs as well as third-party bank ATM networks.

Reduction in Green PIN Regeneration Charges

Amid the upward revision of general ATM transaction fees, Canara Bank has reduced the cost associated with resetting debit card security credentials. The fee for regenerating a Green PIN after exceeding the free transaction quota has been slashed from ₹23 to ₹5. This reduced rate applies across various debit card variants offered by the bank, including Classic, Standard, Platinum, Business, Select, and World cards.
