Commuters and transport operators across several major cities in Uttar Pradesh face higher operational expenses as retail rates for compressed natural gas have seen an immediate upward revision. City gas distributor Green Gas Limited rolled out price hikes ranging between Rs 2 and Rs 3.25 per kilogram on Saturday across its regional networks. The fuel supplier operates as a joint venture enterprise between state-run energy entities Indian Oil and GAIL, managing the daily fuel distribution infrastructure across the urban hubs of Lucknow, Agra, Unnao, Ayodhya, and Sultanpur.
Underlying Factors Behind the Price Hike
The decision to mark up retail fuel prices stems directly from surging operational and sourcing expenses encountered in the natural gas supply chain. The distributor attributed this revision to an elevation in overall input gas costs, climbing benchmarks for spot LNG shipments, and persistent volatility across foreign currency exchange rates. Heightened procurement burdens necessitated a price adjustment across regional retail outlets to offset production margins. The revised tariff structure took effect on October 3 and October 4 across designated territories, directly touching daily budgets for hundreds of thousands of registered vehicle owners in Lucknow, Agra, Unnao, Ayodhya, and Sultanpur.
Rates in Lucknow, Unnao, and Agra Climb by Rs 2 per Kg
Under the revised structure, retail fuel counters in Lucknow, Unnao, and Agra registered a uniform price expansion of Rs 2 per kilogram. Following this adjustment, retail CNG pricing in the state capital of Lucknow shifted from the previous benchmark of Rs 105 per kg to Rs 107 per kg. Within Unnao, the retail figure transitioned from Rs 101.75 per kg to Rs 103.75 per kg. Both Lucknow and Unnao implemented the revised fuel rates on October 3. Meanwhile, consumers in Agra now encounter an identical revision, where price tags climbed from Rs 105 per kg to Rs 107 per kg, with the tariff officially kicking in from October 4.
Ayodhya and Sultanpur Absorb Steepest Price Rise
The sharpest revision across the entire service area was registered in Ayodhya and Sultanpur, where per-kilogram retail charges surged by Rs 3.25. Consequent to this price hike, the retail rate for CNG in both districts rose from Rs 101.75 per kg up to Rs 105 per kg. This steep tariff increase will notably elevate day-to-day expenditures for private vehicle owners, taxi operators, three-wheeler auto-rickshaw fleets, and commercial haulage transport, putting added financial strain on routine vehicular travel throughout central Uttar Pradesh.
