In a significant move to empower women, the Delhi government is set to roll out the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana'. Designed to coincide with the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the scheme promises financial assistance of 2500 rupees per month to women from economically weaker sections. This monetary support will be deposited directly into their bank accounts by the government.
Reaching 22 Lakh Beneficiaries
The launch of this ambitious project is expected on August 28, with the program likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All necessary preparations, including the development of an online registration portal, have been finalized. A budget allocation of 5,110 crore rupees has been earmarked for the 2026-27 fiscal year. It is estimated that approximately 20 to 22 lakh women across Delhi will benefit from this assistance. The funds will be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Eligibility Criteria
To ensure the benefits reach the intended audience, the government has established specific eligibility requirements:
- The applicant must be between 21 and 60 years of age.
- The annual family income must be between 2.50 lakh rupees and 3 lakh rupees.
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Delhi.
- Priority will be given to women holding a ration card.
Exclusion Criteria
Certain categories have been excluded from the scheme to ensure aid is directed toward the most eligible recipients:
- Women employed in government service or those who pay income tax.
- Those already receiving a government pension.
- Women or their families who own a four-wheeler vehicle.
Application Process and Required Documents
The application process for this scheme is conducted entirely online. Applicants will be required to provide specific information and documents, including their Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth, gender, parent's name, marital status, and mobile number. Additionally, applicants must provide an email ID, information regarding the duration of their residence in Delhi, an Aadhaar-linked bank account, and a self-declaration form.
