Traders across Delhi are experiencing significant anxiety regarding the upcoming mega rally organized by the Congress party at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. While the political party has been highlighting the commercial advantages of the event, business owners from prominent markets have raised strong concerns. Seeking a constructive dialogue, representatives from twenty major markets in Delhi have officially requested a twenty-minute meeting with Rahul Gandhi. Through a formal letter sent by the Chamber of Trade and Industry, the business community has pointed out the potential financial setbacks caused by the gathering and proposed a conditional arrangement. They suggested that if Rahul Gandhi can demonstrate how the rally will boost commerce, they will support it, but if the traders successfully prove it causes losses, the event should be postponed until after Diwali.
The Open Democratic Proposal and Letter
Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, addressed an open letter to Rahul Gandhi outlining this new democratic proposition. The letter states that twenty representative traders from twenty major wholesale markets located near Ramlila Maidan wish to meet for just twenty minutes. According to CTI's proposal, if Rahul Gandhi convinces them during this short discussion that gathering ten million people at Ramlila Maidan will increase trade and customer footfall, the organization will immediately withdraw its opposition and welcome the rally. Conversely, if the twenty business leaders demonstrate that the event will harm commerce across the twenty connected wholesale hubs, the rally must be postponed in the public interest until Diwali.
Plea for Resolution Through Discussion
The CTI chairman emphasized that the trading community prefers discussion over confrontation. Highlighting that Rahul Gandhi often mentions listening to everyone and paying attention to small business owners, Goyal noted that merchants from twenty markets are merely asking for a small window of their time, which reflects the true beauty of democracy. The traders fear that such a massive gathering will completely block customer movement and disrupt business operations severely during the crucial festive shopping season.
