Precious metal prices in the national capital began the trading week on a slightly positive note, tracking supportive global cues and weakness in the domestic currency. In the Delhi bullion market, gold of 99.9 percent purity witnessed an increase of Rs 200, climbing to Rs 1,46,300 per 10 grams. In the previous trading session on Friday, the yellow metal had concluded business at Rs 1,46,100 per 10 grams. In contrast, ready silver demonstrated stability, holding firm at Rs 2,02,000 per kilogram amid balanced off-take from industrial users and coin makers. This pause in silver rates comes after prices had dropped consecutively over the preceding three sessions.
Sinking Rupee Pushes Import Costs Higher
A persistent decline in the Indian rupee served as a key catalyst behind the local price rise. The domestic currency retreated for the third straight trading session against the greenback, sliding 29 paise to settle at 95.22 per dollar. Because India relies extensively on external purchases to meet its bullion requirements, shipments invoiced in US dollars become costlier when the rupee softens. This currency depreciation elevated landed costs for domestic importers, effectively cushioning physical gold from downside pressure and underpinning higher retail quotes across mandis.
Global Market Dynamics and Falling Bond Yields
Bullion sentiment also drew strength from moderate recoveries across international trading hubs. Soumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst (Commodities) at HDFC Securities, noted: "Gold prices traded higher in the domestic market on Monday." He pointed out that modest recoveries overseas alongside subdued crude oil prices, a largely steady US dollar, and declining yields on benchmark US Treasuries collectively created a constructive floor for precious metals. In overseas physical trade, spot gold gained 17.49 dollars, or 0.44 percent, touching 4013.12 dollars per ounce. Spot silver, meanwhile, held its ground at 53.91 dollars per ounce.
Geopolitical Frictions and Monetary Policy Focus
Geopolitical maneuvering across the Middle East continued to generate defensive positioning in safe-haven assets. Praveen Singh, Commodity Head at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, pointed out that while Gulf nations are attempting to broker fresh diplomatic communications between Washington and Tehran, the United States is concurrently weighing fresh military options regarding Iran. Spot gold edged up against this uncertain backdrop, drawing support from cautious asset allocators.
Looking ahead, market participants are directing their attention toward upcoming monetary signals. Jatin Trivedi, Vice President and Research Analyst (Commodity and Currency) at LKP Securities, explained that investors are keenly observing future policy directions from the US Federal Reserve. Market players are actively parsing the broader interest rate trajectory amidst ongoing inflation considerations, post-election uncertainties in the United States, and emerging policy indications tied to Kevin Warsh.
