Following severe dry spells, the Gujarat government has officially declared drought across four districts in the region. The administration has brought Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Kachchh under the drought-affected category to address mounting agrarian distress. Along with this declaration, authorities have rolled out a comprehensive financial relief package aimed at supporting local cultivators and rural households.
Assistance Through Disaster Response Funds
The financial aid for the distressed farmers will be disbursed directly through the State Disaster Response Fund framework. Under these guidelines, eligible cultivators will receive financial support of Rs 8,500 per hectare for the crop damage incurred. This measure is designed to provide immediate fiscal relief to those whose livelihoods depend heavily on seasonal yields.
Cap on Land Holdings and Implementation Date
The relief package comes with specific operational limits regarding land size. The financial assistance is strictly restricted to a maximum of 2 हेक्टेयर of crop area per farmer. Even if an individual owns land exceeding this threshold, the compensation will remain capped at the specified limit. Farmers are set to start receiving these benefits beginning November 1, 2026.
Support for Livestock and Rural Employment
Recognizing the broader impact of agricultural distress, the government has included provisions for livestock maintenance and rural job security. To help owners manage fodder requirements, an assistance of Rs 80 per animal will be provided for a duration of two months. Furthermore, to sustain employment in drought-hit villages, wage payments will be disbursed at a rate of Rs 150 under the वीबीजी रामजी योजना.
