Domestic cooking gas consumers who missed completing their mandatory Aadhaar verification have been granted additional time. According to the latest communication from oil marketing companies, the LPG e-KYC deadline has been extended from the earlier target of August 16th to August 23rd, giving users a brief window to sort out their pending requirements.
Why the Deadline Was Pushed Back
The extension was prompted by widespread technical hurdles faced by both consumers and LPG distributors while attempting to complete the mandatory biometric Aadhaar authentication. As the original cutoff approached, reports poured in regarding frequent server outages, application glitches, and heavily congested queues at local LPG dealerships.
Understanding Server Outages and Long Queues
While the digital e-KYC mechanism is designed to streamline Aadhaar authentication, the massive last-minute rush placed immense stress on digital infrastructure and distributor networks. At various dealerships, patrons had to endure extended waiting times just to finish the biometric verification. When servers or backend applications freeze, queues stall entirely even if agency staff are fully available, frustrating customers who spent hours waiting at distribution centers.
Who Needs to Complete Verification
Authorities have reiterated that biometric Aadhaar authentication remains mandatory for all LPG consumers who have not yet completed their e-KYC. However, individuals who have already wrapped up the required authentication do not need to repeat the process simply because new reminders are circulating. This requirement holds special significance for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries, whose targeted cooking gas subsidies depend directly on this linkage. The government mandates that PMUY customers finish this procedure once every financial year to remain eligible for applicable subsidies.
Completing e-KYC From Home
Visiting an authorized LPG distributor in person is no longer the only option. The government has clarified that users can finish their biometric Aadhaar authentication directly from home by utilizing the respective oil marketing company's mobile application alongside the Aadhaar FaceRD app. Customers can access the official platform corresponding to their provider, whether that is Indane, Bharatgas, or HP Gas. Alternatively, those who prefer in-person assistance can still approach their authorized distributor for help.
Implications for LPG Supply and Subsidies
Consumers yet to finish their e-KYC are strongly advised not to ignore the revised deadline. Earlier warnings from distributors and marketing companies indicated that unfinished Aadhaar authentication could jeopardize eligibility for domestic-rate LPG or ongoing subsidy payouts. Nevertheless, the Petroleum Ministry has clarified that actual LPG supplies will not be abruptly cut off solely due to pending e-KYC, though consumers are encouraged to complete the verification promptly to avoid future complications.
