Women are breaking traditional barriers and matching steps with men in business and enterprise, playing a crucial role across various commercial sectors. To foster this spirit, a comprehensive rural self-employment campaign has been rolled out in Azamgarh district with the primary objective of transforming women into successful entrepreneurs. This initiative is designed to drive financial independence and robust economic empowerment among women residing in both urban and rural areas of the district.
Driving Economic Empowerment in Rural Regions
Operating under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the initiative provides targeted training programs to help rural women build sustainable livelihoods and achieve self-reliance. The overarching plan involves the formation of 30,218 self-help groups across the district, with a definitive target to integrate 485,000 women into new self-employment avenues. Official records indicate that 6,854 self-help groups are already active in the district, successfully connecting over 100,000 rural women to the broader mission.
Prioritizing Vulnerable and Needy Households
A core pillar of this campaign is its strategic focus on families from disadvantaged backgrounds in rural areas. Special identification procedures are underway to ensure that women belonging to eligible household and Antyodaya ration card holder families receive direct benefits, directing resources precisely to those who need financial elevation the most to boost their household income. Elaborating on the initiative, National Rural Livelihoods Mission Deputy Commissioner Dr. Aradhana Tripathi explained that structured training modules are being delivered through these community groups.
Comprehensive Training and Financial Backing
Through these self-help groups, participants receive specialized skill development training across multiple domains, enabling them to launch independent business ventures. Women can venture into agriculture, healthcare services, or operate their own community canteens. To support these enterprises, financial assistance ranging from 3 lakh to 5 lakh rupees is extended at minimal interest rates via CCL, supplementing the core group funds. By leveraging this financial support, women can successfully establish their own commercial ventures and create employment opportunities for other women in their communities.
