A shocking and grave accident took place in the Puri district of Odisha, where a young girl out to collect flowers for worship met with a severe mishap. According to the available details, the incident occurred in Jamuna village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Delang police station area in Puri. The girl had climbed up to reach flowers when her foot suddenly slipped, causing her to lose her balance entirely. She plunged straight onto an iron-railed gate below, resulting in a sharp iron rod from the railing piercing directly into her hand and getting firmly stuck there. This harrowing accident triggered immediate panic in the area as locals rushed to help the injured child.
The mishap during flower collection
The injured girl involved in the accident has been identified as Supriya Rai. Supriya had gone out to gather flowers specifically for the upcoming Khudurukuni Puja rituals. The gate of the premises where the flowers were located was closed shut. Due to the gate being locked, Supriya attempted to climb a wall to gain access to the flowers. It was during this attempt that the accident struck, causing her to fall onto the iron railing and severely injure her arm. Following the trauma, the child was left in acute agony as onlookers gathered around the accident spot.
Rescue efforts by locals and firefighters
Upon learning about the accident, local villagers immediately gathered at the scene and alerted the fire department regarding the emergency. Responding promptly to the distress call, a team of firefighters reached the location without delay. With the active assistance of local residents, the fire department personnel initiated a rescue operation. They cut through parts of the iron grill to safely extricate the child from the spot. Throughout this careful rescue process, the metal rod remained embedded inside the girl's hand. Once freed, Supriya was rushed to a nearby hospital in Jatni for immediate medical attention by her family and locals.
Successful surgery performed at AIIMS Bhubaneswar
After initial evaluation at the Jatni hospital, medical professionals noted that the child's condition was critical, prompting her immediate referral to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Upon her arrival at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, a team of specialist doctors took up the case and performed an emergency surgical procedure. During this complex operation, the doctors successfully extracted the iron railing rod that had pierced the girl's hand. Presently, Supriya remains admitted at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where doctors are closely monitoring her recovery and continuing her treatment. A video capturing the incident has also surfaced, clearly showing the metal railing stuck in her hand, while another footage shows family members carrying her on their shoulders toward medical help.
