Farmers in Moradabad can now utilize this specific government initiative to turn their barren and wasteland into fertile ground for farming. The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Kisan Samriddhi Yojana is a key land reclamation program operated by the Uttar Pradesh government, designed to treat and convert useless ravines, barren tracts, and waterlogged areas into cultivable farmland. This project works on neglected and unproductive land within selected project areas. To further boost agricultural productivity, the scheme also promotes horticulture and agroforestry. The initiative is actively implemented across various districts throughout the state.
How the Reclamation Process Works
Deputy Agriculture Director Ravikant explained that the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Kisan Samriddhi Yojana is implemented to improve barren and water-logged patches in rural areas. Under this program, extensive work is carried out to enhance the fertility of farmers' land. The operations involve constructing check dams on drains and building small-scale water conservation structures so that rainwater stays within the fields. These measures successfully increase the moisture retention capacity of the soil and effectively prevent topsoil erosion caused by runoff.
Selection Criteria and Project Targets
He further shared that the scheme is currently managed by a dedicated section of the Soil Conservation Department within the Moradabad district. Various soil conservation structures are constructed to reclaim degraded land. At present, the department has been assigned a target of approximately 100 hectares. All farmers falling within this 100-hectare catchment area, numbering around 400 to 500 individuals, stand to benefit from the initiative.
He clarified that individual farmers cannot receive the benefits of this scheme through direct personal applications. Instead, the designated conservation unit visits fields directly to conduct comprehensive surveys. Areas experiencing severe water runoff and soil erosion are selected and prioritized under this scheme for targeted land treatment.
