Spraying pesticide and liquid fertiliser on small plots is often a real headache for farmers, but Birsa Agriculture University in Ranchi has come up with a simple fix. The university has built a special machine that you wear on your back like a bag, and it can hold up to 25 litres of pesticide or liquid fertiliser in a single fill. Its biggest strength is the pipe, which lets you stand in one spot and spray as far as 20 to 25 feet away.
According to technician Raunak, the machine has been designed mainly for farmers who cultivate 2 to 3 acres of land. For these farmers, spraying is always a big challenge. Many of them end up hiring a labourer to get the job done, but with this machine the same work wraps up in just one hour.
No Strain On The Shoulders Or Waist
Raunak says the bag has been made extremely comfortable. It is thick and well padded, so it never feels heavy on the shoulders. Once you put it on and tie it around your waist, it stays firmly in place and does not shift around. You simply hold the pipe in your hand and start spraying. While it can take 25 litres in one go, anyone who finds that too heavy can fill just 10 litres and still cover one acre of land comfortably.
A Battery Powered Motor Builds The Pressure
The machine has a small motor fitted at the bottom that supplies pressure to the pipe. Thanks to this pressure, water travels easily as far as 20 to 25 feet while the farmer stands in one place, without much effort. The motor runs on a battery that lasts a long time. Most farmers finish their work in one to two hours, so there is no need to worry about the battery running out.
Price And Where To Learn More
As for the cost, this machine is priced at ₹15000. Farmers who want to know more can come directly to the Agriculture University, where they will also be shown a demo of the machine. Besides this one, several other machines are available there that farmers can come and explore. To do so, they need to visit the farm machinery department.
