Thousands of students at Jamia Millia Islamia have received major clarity as the university administration overturned its earlier directives regarding remote classes and examinations. Following days of persistent ambiguity and student discontent over virtual education, the registrar office released a fresh official notification confirming that remote lectures will conclude shortly. All circulars previously issued regarding classes and examination schedules now stand officially revoked.
Previous Notices Cancelled As Administration Issues Revised Framework
The revised notification was signed and officially notified on October 30 by Registrar Professor Mohd. Mahtab Alam Rizvi. With the implementation of this latest directive, earlier circulars released on October 24, October 26, and October 28 have been entirely rescinded. The administrative turnaround provides immediate relief to enrolled scholars who were navigating continuous uncertainty about whether academic work and evaluations would occur via digital portals or inside physical lecture halls.
Virtual Sessions Conclude on November 9 Ahead of Physical Reopening
Under the revised academic schedule, distance instruction across all courses will continue strictly through November 9, 2026. Beginning the very next morning on November 10, 2026, in-person classes will commence across every faculty, department, and specialized center within the campus. Returning to lecture rooms enables students to engage directly with faculty members after a disruptive break. The move particularly benefits candidates whose curricula rely heavily on laboratory sessions, collaborative group projects, and practical exercises that proved difficult to replicate over computer screens.
Offline Pen-and-Paper Second Midterms Scheduled For November 16 to 21
The administration has extended structural changes beyond daily lectures into student assessments. The official order explicitly notes that the upcoming second mid-term examinations will not be held online under any circumstances. Instead, these evaluations will take place through traditional pen-and-paper formats from November 16 to November 21, 2026. Learners must report to their assigned departmental rooms according to the scheduled timetable to sit for their written papers.
Key Differences Compared to the October 28 Directive
A comparison between the latest notification and the preceding October 28 order reveals a significant policy reversal. Under the prior plan, digital teaching was slated to run continuously through November 24, accompanied by proposals to conduct end-semester assessments online in December. To safeguard academic rigor, preserve educational standards, and address the student community's requests, the administration chose to alter course entirely, shifting both teaching sessions and examinations back to the physical university grounds.
Adherence to 2026-27 Academic Calendar and Strict Attendance Norms
The university has reaffirmed that all remaining curriculum milestones for the current session, such as project evaluations, laboratory assignments, and academic seminars, will strictly follow the established 2026-27 academic calendar. Simultaneously, deans of faculties, heads of departments, and directors of institutional centers have received strict instructions to log daily student attendance and maintain complete transparency in examination records. Institutional officials emphasized that attendance guidelines will be rigorously enforced once offline instruction begins.
