Surging water levels have submerged streets and homes, forcing numerous families to abandon their residences and seek emergency shelter. Local administrative teams have stepped in to relocate marooned citizens as conditions in vulnerable patches continue to deteriorate.
Indravati River Overflows into Homes, Nine Relief Camps Operational
The persistent precipitation has caused the Indravati River to swell rapidly, pushing water directly into residential pockets where waist-deep flooding has been reported. In response to the worsening crisis, district authorities have set up a total of nine relief camps across affected zones. Rescue personnel are actively evacuating trapped inhabitants and shifting them to these secure shelters. More than 353 rural citizens have arrived at these centres so far, with officials noting that the count is expected to rise further as rescue operations continue.
Jagdalpur's Bhagat Singh School Shelter Houses 101 Flood Victims
In Jagdalpur, the Chimnibhatti neighbourhood is among the hardest-hit parts, experiencing severe inundation. Displaced families from Chimnibhatti have been accommodated at an emergency shelter set up inside Bhagat Singh School. A total of 101 people are currently staying at this facility, where essential support is being organized. Field teams remain deployed to monitor low-lying corridors and provide transit assistance to stranded citizens.
Household Assets Washed Out as Buildings Suffer Structural Damage
The rapid influx of floodwater gave residents virtually no time to secure their personal belongings. Chimnibhatti resident Laxmi Baghel stated that her house was completely flooded, leaving her no choice but to rush out immediately with her children. She mentioned that all household goods were fully submerged under water, leaving no opportunity to salvage anything, and that they had been unable to eat anything since the previous night.
Another local resident, Kaman Kashyap, described how water from the Indravati River surged inside his residence up to waist level, forcing him to reach the emergency camp around 12 midnight. He noted that the flood caused severe destruction to the property, leaving prominent cracks across the structure of his house.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast Persists for the Coming Day
Relief remains distant for the affected population as the meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall across Bastar district on the following day as well. Because water from the Indravati River continues to inundate residential areas at alarming depths, administrative teams and emergency responders remain on high alert to handle further overflow and potential evacuations.
