Mobile repairing as a commercial venture is witnessing unprecedented growth across rural and semi-urban pockets. With technology penetrating deeper into everyday life, the demand for local repair and maintenance services has transformed this sector into a lucrative livelihood option. In regions like Bastar, young entrepreneurs are increasingly turning towards this trade to establish independent ventures without needing heavy financial backing or large commercial spaces.
Low Capital Requirement and Earnings
Setting up a compact mobile repair center in rural settings does not demand a massive financial outlay. This enterprise can be successfully initiated with an initial investment ranging between 60,000 and 70,000 rupees. When it comes to returns, operators can comfortably generate a monthly income of at least 20,000 to 30,000 rupees. Furthermore, if the shop runs efficiently and gains regular local patronage, the monthly earnings can easily scale up to 50,000 or 60,000 rupees.
Training Programs and Skill Development
Local shop operator Ramdas has been successfully running a mobile service center for the past 2 years. During the COVID-19 pandemic when employment opportunities dried up, he learned about the RTC mobile repairing training program and completed a 1-month free course. The government facilitates this training program at zero cost, imparting detailed technical knowledge regarding hardware components, circuit repairs, and fault-finding techniques. Although government-backed loans are available upon course completion to help candidates start their ventures, Ramdas chose to establish his center using his own arrangements without taking a loan.
Comparative Costs and Profitable Accessories
The operational expenses vary significantly between urban and rural geographies. Launching a rural shop requires roughly 50,000 to 60,000 rupees, whereas setting up a similar establishment in urban centers can demand up to 1.5 lakh rupees. Beyond direct repair services, replacing a single display unit yields a profit margin of around 400 rupees. Additionally, retail accessories such as Bluetooth devices, earphones, charging cables, and protective mobile covers experience the highest consumer demand, driving steady daily footfall and extra revenue.
