By taking advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, he has completely eliminated his monthly electricity expenses while feeding excess solar power back into the public grid.
Monthly Electricity Bill Drops from Rs 2,000 to Zero
Prior to installing the rooftop solar system, Aalam Say received regular monthly electricity bills ranging between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000. This recurring financial demand placed a notable burden on his household budget. However, over the past three and a half months since the solar equipment became operational, his power bill has dropped to exactly zero. The total relief from monthly electricity costs has significantly improved his family financial outlook.
Supplied 850 Units of Surplus Electricity to the Grid
The electricity produced by the rooftop solar panels first meets all the daily power demands of Aalam Say home. Any surplus energy generated throughout the day is transferred directly to the state electricity department through the electrical grid. Aalam Say revealed that in approximately three and a half months, his system has contributed around 850 units of excess power back to the grid, turning a former electricity consumer into an active power contributor.
Financial Assistance of Rs 1.08 Lakh from Central and State Governments
Setting up the solar equipment involved minimal out-of-pocket expenditure for Aalam Say, thanks to generous financial support from both central and state authorities. He received a combined subsidy totaling Rs 1,08,000 for the project. This assistance comprised Rs 78,000 from the Central Government alongside Rs 30,000 provided by the Chhattisgarh State Government, dramatically easing the upfront adoption barrier.

Reflecting on his experience, Aalam Say Rajwade emphasized that applying under the PM Surya Ghar scheme and completing the installation proved simple and hassle-free. Encouraged by his zero-bill outcome, he urged other eligible power consumers to learn about the government scheme and adopt rooftop solar technology. Expanding rooftop solar adoption helps reduce reliance on traditional grid power while yielding substantial long-term savings for households.
