A devastating road accident in the Kachna area of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has resulted in the death of a 23-year-old youth who was expecting his first child. The tragedy unfolded when a speeding car ran over two friends who had fallen onto the road after their motorcycle collided with a stray cow sitting in the dark. While one victim succumbed to his injuries, the other is battling for his life in a hospital's intensive care unit.
The Sunday Night Crash
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday night when Karan Nayak, a 23-year-old resident of Chandrashekhar Nagar, was returning home on a motorcycle with his friend Roshan Jagat. According to the police, as the duo was traveling along the Shanti Sarovar road, they failed to spot a cow resting on the unlit stretch of the street. Their motorcycle crashed into the animal, causing both riders to lose their balance and fall onto the pavement.
In a tragic turn of events, before the two young men could recover from the initial fall, a rapidly approaching car from behind ran over them. The sheer speed of the vehicle left the victims with critical injuries. Bystanders and local residents present near the scene immediately rushed the heavily injured friends to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Karan Nayak died during the course of his treatment. His companion, Roshan Jagat, remains in critical condition and is currently admitted to the ICU, receiving intensive medical attention.
Search for the Absconding Driver
Following the horrific crash, the driver of the car did not stop to assist the victims and fled the scene immediately. Law enforcement authorities have registered a hit-and-run case against the unidentified driver. Investigating officers have managed to recover CCTV footage of the accident from the vicinity, which is now being analyzed to track down the vehicle and its owner. However, despite these efforts, the accused driver remains at large and has not been identified even three days after the fatal event took place.
A Family's Sole Breadwinner Lost
The sudden demise of Karan Nayak has plunged his family into profound grief and a severe financial crisis. Having taken on the responsibility of his household at a young age following the death of his father, Karan was the sole provider for his elderly mother and his wife, Nandini. The couple had tied the knot in a love marriage just two years ago, and Nandini is currently seven months pregnant. After previously working as a daily wage laborer and porter, Karan had been employed as a driver for the past two years to support his family. His untimely death has now left his pregnant wife and aging mother facing an uncertain and difficult future without their primary source of income.
The Growing Menace of Stray Cattle
This tragic incident highlights the escalating danger posed by stray cattle on the streets of Raipur. Animals resting on roads, particularly during the night on poorly lit stretches, become nearly invisible to motorists, leading to severe and often fatal collisions. Official data indicates that there have been several similar accidents in the region over recent months resulting in the loss of human lives. The gravity of the situation recently drew the attention of the High Court, which expressed strong displeasure over the continuing deaths caused by roaming cattle. The court has demanded answers from the responsible civic and administrative officials regarding the measures being taken to resolve this persistent civic issue.
