Car Rams Parked Motorcycle in Kerala's Kunnamkulam, Killing Couple and Their Toddler Son

In Kerala's Thrissur district, an out-of-control car crashed into a motorcycle parked on the roadside along the Guruvayur-Kunnamkulam route, killing a couple and their three-year-old son.

Three members of one family, a couple and their three-year-old son, died late Saturday night in Kerala's Thrissur district after an out-of-control car slammed into their motorcycle, which they had parked by the roadside on the Guruvayur-Kunnamkulam route.

Police identified the victims as 35-year-old Muneer, a resident of Edakkazhiyur in Chavakkad, his 25-year-old wife Safna, and their three-year-old son Yamil Aibak. The family had attended a wedding ceremony and was riding back home on a motorcycle when they stopped briefly at the roadside. A car travelling behind them suddenly lost control and rammed straight into the parked bike. The impact was so severe that Muneer, Safna and young Yamil died on the spot. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Same district saw a bigger crash the night before

This was not the only fatal accident in Thrissur district that week. A night earlier, on Friday around 11:40 pm, a car collided with a lorry parked on the roadside at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam. All eight people travelling in the car died on the spot. Locals, police and a fire and rescue team worked for hours to pull the bodies out of the wrecked car, after which they were sent to the mortuary at Thrissur Medical College. All the victims in that crash were reported to be students from Tamil Nadu, and the car itself was also registered in Tamil Nadu. It was travelling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur at the time of the collision.

Investigation underway

In both crashes, police are still trying to establish exactly why the vehicles went out of control. The two accidents, occurring within roughly a day of each other and both involving vehicles hitting others parked or stopped along the roadside, have raised fresh concern about road safety in the district after dark.
