A poignant moment unfolded at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday night, October 11, during the second T20 match between India and the West Indies. Local cricket enthusiasts had gathered in large numbers hoping for fireworks from Indian captain Shreyas Iyer when he strode out to the middle. However, the experienced right-handed batter lasted merely two deliveries and managed just a single run before walking back to the pavilion. Unable to process the abrupt downfall of her favourite cricketer, a female supporter seated in the grandstands broke down in tears, with the emotional moment getting captured on camera.
Early Exit for the Captain on the Second Delivery
Although the home side managed to pull off a 12-run victory in the high-scoring contest, Iyer endured a forgettable outing with the bat. Following the dismissal of Ishan Kishan on the second ball of the ninth over, Iyer arrived at the crease at 8.2 overs. After tucking away his first delivery for a single, he was trapped leg-before-wicket by Roston Chase on the very next ball. Watching him depart after making only one run was too distressing for the young fan in the stands, whose tearful reaction soon gained widespread traction online.
Abhishek Sharma's Blitzkrieg Lifts Powerplay Totals
Earlier in the evening, the West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Alzarri Joseph struck in the second over itself, sending Sanju Samson back for three runs after Pooran safely held on to a catch. That early setback brought Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan together, triggering an all-out assault against the bowling attack. Abhishek took charge in breath-taking fashion, racing to a 50-run milestone in just 18 deliveries, as the batting duo propelled India to 87 for the loss of one wicket by the end of the initial six overs.
Double Blow in the Ninth Over Halts Middle-Overs Momentum
The total smoothly sailed past the triple-figure threshold in the eighth over, but the ninth over brought twin setbacks for the hosts. Ishan Kishan was stumped on the second ball of the over, and just two deliveries later, Chase struck again to remove Iyer LBW. The following over saw Abhishek depart as well after smashing a rapid 69 off 30 deliveries. Consequently, India slipped swiftly from 115 for one to 124 for four. Despite that sudden collapse in the middle order, the remaining batting lineup rallied hard to push the total to 233 runs.
Caribbean Chase Falls Short Despite Springer's Late Surge
In response, the West Indies mounted a spirited run chase led by middle-order resistance. Shimron Hetmyer struck 43 off 26 balls with six boundaries and two sixes, while Kamil Pooran contributed 42 from 27 deliveries featuring three fours and three sixes. Towards the tail end of the contest, Shamar Springer produced a blistering cameo, blazing an unbeaten 35 off only 11 balls packed with two fours and four massive hits over the ropes. However, the visitors eventually ended their innings at 209 for seven, handing India a 12-run win. Leading the Indian bowling effort, Arshdeep grabbed three wickets for 44 runs, while Naman Dhir claimed two wickets while conceding 39 runs.
