Devotees preparing to visit the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi during Navratri can now access expanded public transit options from Haryana. Haryana Roadways has established regular bus operations connecting the Ambala Cantt bus stand directly to Jammu and Katra. To handle the surging footfall of pilgrims heading toward the mountain shrine, authorities have scheduled 11 buses on this corridor every single day. Passengers do not need to secure seat reservations beforehand, as bus conductors issue travel tickets directly on board upon boarding.
Route Details and Passenger Fare Structure
The operational network covers critical highway junctions across the northern plains. Several buses commence their runs from Delhi, entering Ambala before traversing through Khanna, Ludhiana, Phagwara, Jalandhar, and Pathankot to reach Jammu and Katra. This inter-state connectivity provides residents of Ambala and nearby districts with a dependable transit link for their religious pilgrimage.
The fare for travelers heading from Ambala all the way to Katra has been set at 700 rupees per passenger. For passengers disembarking earlier at Jammu, the one-way fare is approximately 620 rupees. The absence of mandatory advance bookings ensures that pilgrims making spontaneous travel decisions can board readily without waiting in reservation lines.
Seating Capacities and Daily Departure Timings
Ambala Cantt bus stand in-charge Ramesh Chandra confirmed that 11 regular buses are being operated daily on this corridor to cater to the festive rush. Each vehicle is configured with 52 passenger seats. Dedicated seating reservations are earmarked for women passengers. In addition, senior citizens and children receive concessions on ticket fares in line with standard state transport regulations.
Services operate at staggered intervals spanning morning to late night, allowing pilgrims flexibility in scheduling their departure. According to the official timetable, the earliest bus pulls out of Ambala at 7:20 AM. Subsequent departures are spaced throughout the morning at 08:20 AM, 09:10 AM, 10:20 AM, and 12:20 PM. Afternoon slots feature trips at 01:20 PM and 03:40 PM, while evening and night commuters can board at 06:20 PM, 7:15 PM, 08:15 PM, or the final departure at 09:15 PM.
Highway Halts and Return Arrangements
Given the long road journey involved, authorities have ensured that drinking water supplies are stocked on the buses. Vehicles pull into designated transit halts for approximately 10 to 15 minutes along the highway, allowing passengers brief opportunities to stretch and refresh. Scheduled dining stops are arranged at roadside dhabas during meal hours.
Transport officials advise travelers to verify their chosen departure schedule and route details at the bus counter before boarding to avoid logistical confusion. Regular bus services have also been placed on the return leg from Katra back to Ambala, enabling visiting families to coordinate their journey smoothly in both directions throughout the festive window.
