Emerging from a modest village background in Bulandshahr district, Shubham's quick rise to the big stage has captured widespread attention in domestic cricket circles.
From Village Tennis Ball Cricket to UPCA Selection
Shubham Gautam's journey into competitive cricket began far away from professional facilities. Hailing from Dibi, a small village located in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, Shubham honed his raw pace playing tennis ball cricket in local lanes and open fields. His natural ability to generate high speed caught a major breakthrough during a talent search drive organized by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).
During the UPCA speed-bowling hunt campaign held at trials in Noida, Shubham showcased his formidable speed and sharp accuracy. The selectors were immediately impressed by his ability to maintain line and length while delivering high pace, paving the way for his entry into structured professional cricket.
Auction Faith and Impressive Spells for Noida Kings
Recognizing his exceptional talent, Noida Kings secured Shubham's services at the UPT20 auction for a substantial price tag of ₹21.5 lakh. The 21-year-old speedster quickly validated the franchise's financial investment through consistent, match-winning performances on the field.
Making his debut against Kanpur Superstars, Shubham delivered a disciplined spell of 0/17, keeping batters quiet despite remaining wicketless. He followed that up with a standout display against Lucknow Falcons, where he touched a top speed of 143 kmph. Shubham tore through the batting order to claim 3 vital wickets for just 22 runs in his spell, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 5.50.
Jofra Archer Inspiration and Bhuvneshwar Kumar Blueprint
Cricket experts have highlighted striking similarities between Shubham's bowling style and that of England fast bowler Jofra Archer. Featuring a smooth run-up paired with a high-arm release action, Shubham generates natural pace and steep bounce off the pitch. However, the young fast bowler maintains a grounded perspective on these comparisons.
Reflecting on his bowling approach, Shubham Gautam said, "I don't have Jofra's height, but I love bowling fast like him." Alongside speed, Shubham considers veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar his idol, actively trying to master movement off the seam and swing the ball both ways.

Understanding the demanding nature of fast bowling, Shubham prioritizes physical fitness to sustain a long career. He undergoes rigorous conditioning sessions, focusing heavily on sprint work, strength training, and endurance. Having previously faced rejections when omitted from U-19 and state training camps, Shubham is determined to maximize every opportunity coming his way.
His immediate target is securing a spot in the senior Uttar Pradesh squad across major domestic tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as well as the U-23 team. Given his current consistency and high-speed bowling, cricket observers believe he could eventually earn a call-up to represent the national team.
