However, the board clarified that his final participation in the Sri Lanka series remains strictly subject to receiving a clear fitness report.
Joining Bumrah in the squad is world top-ranked Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja's exclusion from the previous Test against Afghanistan had raised several questions among observers, but the selection committee has backed his extensive experience and skill set specifically for spin-friendly Asian conditions in Sri Lanka.
Maiden Call-Up for Saransh Jain Following Domestic Success
The headline inclusion in the 15-player contingent is 33-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain. Representing Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket, Jain earns his first national team call-up as reward for years of consistent red-ball performances.
Jain boasts an impressive first-class record, having accumulated 2,223 runs and picked up 188 wickets across 54 matches. His dual capability with bat and ball is expected to offer crucial balance, especially given the traditional spin-conducive pitches anticipated in Sri Lanka.
Three Players Miss Out Due to Injury and Squad Restructuring
While new and returning faces entered the group, three players failed to secure places in the touring squad. All-rounder Washington Sundar was rendered unavailable for selection after sustaining an injury on 16 July during the second ODI against England.
Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has featured in 10 Test matches for India, also missed out owing to ongoing fitness concerns. Additionally, Vidarbha spinner Harsh Dubey was dropped from the setup. Having earned his first national call-up for the single Afghanistan Test, Dubey could not retain his berth as selectors opted for more experienced and in-form all-round options suited to Sri Lankan conditions.
