Telangana is preparing to set a new global benchmark in sports infrastructure by constructing the world's largest and most technologically advanced international cricket stadium near Hyderabad. Conceptualized under the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the ambitious facility in Bharat Future City aims to surpass the seating capacity of Ahmedabad's Motera Stadium, which currently holds 1.32 lakh spectators. The foundation stone for this landmark sports project is expected to be laid in December 2026.
100-Acre Complex Funded Entirely by BCCI
According to the project layout, the new international stadium complex will span approximately 100 acres of land and accommodate more than 1.32 lakh fans. The total construction expenditure for the mega venue is estimated between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 1,500 crore. The project will operate under a joint structure between the Telangana state government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per the agreed framework, the state government will allocate the required land, while the BCCI will finance the entire construction budget and manage all future operational and maintenance costs.
Multi-Purpose Sports Arena Beyond Cricket
The facility is designed as a versatile multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena rather than just a standalone cricket venue. It will feature world-class amenities capable of hosting international football matches, large-scale cultural events, major music concerts, and global conventions. Currently, Hyderabad relies on the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal, which suffers from restricted seating capacity. Due to these space limitations, the city has faced challenges in securing marquee fixtures during major international tournaments like the ICC World Cup, making a larger venue a long-standing necessity.
Strategic Transit Connectivity and Regional Growth
The chosen location in Bharat Future City offers excellent transportation links for domestic and international visitors. The site sits close to the Outer Ring Road, the proposed Regional Ring Road, upcoming Metro Rail extension lines, and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. This seamless transit access ensures convenient travel for spectators arriving from across India and abroad. Beyond enhancing Hyderabad's standing on the international sports map, the project is expected to drive sports tourism, strengthen local infrastructure, and generate fresh economic opportunities for the youth of Telangana.
