Banswara Domestic Worker Steals Jewellery Worth Rs 10 Lakh to Pay Online Gaming Debt, Arrested

Police in Rajasthan's Banswara cracked a major theft within 48 hours, arresting a domestic worker who stole gold jewellery to repay hefty online gaming debts.

A severe addiction to online gaming drove a domestic worker to commit a major robbery at his employer's residence in Rajasthan's Banswara district. Facing mounting debts accumulated from digital games, the worker took advantage of the family's absence to steal valuable gold jewellery and cash. The Kasarwadi police acted swiftly following the formal complaint, solving the case within 48 hours, apprehending the accused, and recovering stolen valuables estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh.

Family Left for a Wedding as Locked House Was Targeted

The victim, Qutubuddin Bohra, a resident of Kasarwadi, had locked his house on the evening of October 11 to attend a relative's wedding celebration alongside his entire family. Trusting that their home was securely locked, the family stayed away for the event. However, upon their return, they were shocked to discover that the interior cupboards had been tampered with and expensive valuables were missing from their designated places.

A thorough search confirmed that valuable ornaments and cash had been stolen while the premises remained unoccupied. Bohra approached the Kasarwadi police station on October 15 and registered a formal complaint detailing the break-in. In his report, he stated that two gold bangles, a gold ring, artificial ornaments, and Rs 5,000 in cash had been stolen from the cupboard. Following the registration of the case, law enforcement officers launched an immediate investigation into the matter.

Special Police Team Formed Under SP Sudhir Joshi

Taking serious note of the theft, Banswara Superintendent of Police Sudhir Joshi directed officers to crack the case without delay. Under his supervision, an investigative team was assembled under the leadership of Station House Officer Rajveer Singh. The team visited the crime scene to inspect the premises and gathered details regarding the entry points and individuals who had access to the residence.

The physical evidence at the scene indicated that the perpetrator possessed intimate knowledge of where valuable items were stored, as the theft specifically targeted the almirah containing the ornaments without random ransacking. This led investigators to strongly suspect an insider or someone closely acquainted with the household routines, prompting them to scrutinize domestic staff and regular visitors.

Domestic Helper Detained Following Rising Suspicion

During the inquiry, investigators turned their focus onto Rahul, son of Gorsingh Bariya, a resident of Nawa Tapra in Kasarwadi, who was employed as a domestic helper at Bohra's household. His recent movements and demeanor raised suspicions among the investigating officers. Acting on these leads, the police detained him for questioning regarding the events of October 11.

Although the suspect initially attempted to evade answering questions, rigorous questioning led him to confess to the crime. Rahul admitted that knowing the house was vacant while the family was away at the wedding, he seized the opportunity to steal the jewellery and cash from the cupboard. Following his confession, police recovered the stolen items based on the information he provided.

Addiction and Staggering Debt Sparked the Crime

Upon further interrogation, the suspect revealed that his actions were driven by a severe addiction to online mobile gaming. His gaming habits had led him to lose substantial sums of money, resulting in an accumulated debt of approximately Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. As creditors intensified pressure on him to clear the dues, he devised a plan to steal from his employer to repay the money.

The police recovered almost the entirety of the stolen items, collectively valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh. The recovered cache included two gold bangles, one gold ring, two artificial bangles, and Rs 2,000 in cash. The Kasarwadi police have taken the accused into custody and are continuing further investigations to wrap up the legal proceedings against him.
