A tragic accident during a cultural celebration at an engineering college in Nadergul, located within the Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, has left the entire state in deep shock. The incident unfolded on Saturday during the final leg of a campus fest, turning a joyous gathering of students into a scene of utter despair.
Lighting Truss Collapses Amid Festivities
The fatal accident took place on the premises of MVSR College, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Adibatla police station. The institution was hosting the culmination of its two-day annual technical and cultural festival named 'Sangamam', with hundreds of students participating in the traditional Dandia dance on the grounds. Amid the celebrations, gusty winds combined with alleged structural vulnerabilities caused a large metal truss used for stage lighting and decoration to give way and crash directly onto a group of young women.
A senior police official confirmed that the heavy metallic framework collapsed during the festivities, resulting in one fatality and leaving 12 other individuals injured. Emergency responders and college authorities swiftly moved the wounded individuals to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. Following the disaster, a heavy contingent of police personnel was deployed across the campus to maintain law and order, as grieving parents and distressed students gathered at the site in a state of high tension.
Chief Minister Orders Strict Legal Action
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed profound anguish over the loss of young life in the college mishap. According to the Chief Minister's Office, the state leader conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and issued firm directives to administration officials to ensure that all injured students receive top-tier medical care without delay. Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed law enforcement to immediately identify those responsible for the safety lapse and initiate stringent legal action against them.
Family Alleges Severe Security Lapses
Recalling the harrowing moments of the tragedy, the victim's uncle Suresh pointed fingers at the lax safety protocols implemented at the venue. Speaking to reporters, Suresh stated that he received a phone call between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM while the Dandia celebrations were underway. He mentioned that strong winds were blowing at the time when the heavy lighting pillar came crashing down, striking his relative directly on the head in what initially appeared to everyone on site to be a minor bump before turning fatal.
