A shocking burglary incident has surfaced from the affluent residential neighborhood of Punjabi Bagh Extension in West Delhi, highlighting the risks of hiring unverified domestic staff. A newly employed domestic worker cleaned out gold, diamond, and silver ornaments valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh after spending barely 24 hours on the job. The suspect attempted to flee across the international border into Nepal, but swift action by the Delhi Police led to his apprehension near the border in Bihar. Law enforcement officers have also successfully recovered the entire stolen treasure trove from his ancestral home.
Heist Executed Within 24 Hours Of Joining
According to official details shared by the investigating authorities, the arrested suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Shashikant, a native of Supaul district in Bihar. The complainant had employed Shashikant on August 20 for routine household chores at their Punjabi Bagh Extension residence. Taking advantage of the family's absence on August 21, the accused gathered valuable jewelry stored inside the home and vanished without a trace. Upon discovering the missing items later that evening, the homeowner immediately alerted the local authorities. The Punjabi Bagh police station received a formal PCR call regarding the incident on August 21 and promptly registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to launch an investigation.
CCTV Feeds And Technical Surveillance Pinpoint Escape Route
To trace the suspect, police operational teams launched an intensive investigation starting with the examination of dozens of CCTV camera feeds across Punjabi Bagh Extension and nearby transport hubs. The surveillance footage helped trace the initial direction in which the suspect fled. Concurrently, the technical analysis wing examined Call Detail Records (CDR) and cell tower locations associated with the suspect's phone number. Electronic tracking confirmed that the suspect was traveling rapidly toward eastern India, eventually pinpointing his active presence near Belahi village in the Supaul district of Bihar.
Border Chase And Full Treasure Recovery From Wooden Trunk
A specialized team from the Delhi Police traveled to Bihar to capture the fleeing suspect. Realizing that the police were closing in on his location, Shashikant made a desperate attempt to cross the nearby Kunauli Nepal border into foreign territory. However, Delhi Police personnel, operating in close coordination with local Bihar police authorities, established a tight perimeter near the Kunauli border checkpoint and successfully intercepted the suspect. During initial interrogation, Shashikant confessed to the crime and revealed that he had concealed the entire stolen loot inside a traditional wooden trunk at his native home in Belahi village. Officers subsequently raided the premises and retrieved every stolen item intact.

Police officers confirmed that 100 percent of the stolen property has been safely recovered. The retrieved inventory includes approximately 450 grams of silver formatted as decorative plates and minted coins, 3 diamond chains, 1 gold chain, 1 comprehensive diamond jewelry set, 1 ring, 5 lockets, 1 diamond earring, and 2 premium luxury wristwatches. The combined market value of these recovered articles stands at around Rs 60 lakh. Investigators are currently continuing their custodial interrogation of Shashikant to determine whether he acted alone or was part of an organized crime module specializing in residential burglaries.
