In a heart-wrenching incident reported from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, two young siblings died under mysterious circumstances shortly after returning home from a temple visit. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality, leaving the grieving family completely devastated. According to available details, the brother and sister had gone to visit a local temple located roughly 200 meters away from their residence. Roughly two hours after they returned from their devotions, both children suddenly started falling seriously ill, causing immense panic among their family members.
The family rushed both children without any delay to the Baberu Community Health Center, where attending doctors examined them and pronounced both dead upon arrival. Authorities and locals strongly suspect that the children were bitten by a venomous snake along the pathway while returning from the temple. The deceased girl, Anupa, was studying in the ninth standard, while her younger brother Mohit was enrolled in the sixth standard. Their father, Jaikaran, works as a daily wage laborer in Ahmedabad to support the household. Following the sudden tragedy, the children's mother, Rajrani, and other relatives are inconsolable.
Upon receiving information about the tragedy, the Marka police station team promptly intervened, took custody of both bodies, and dispatched them for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. The unfortunate demise of the two children has triggered widespread grief in the village. Incidents of this nature underscore the critical importance of snakebite awareness and prompt medical access in rural regions where such encounters can rapidly turn fatal if safety protocols are ignored.
Precautions and Actions When Encountering a Snake
If a snake suddenly appears right in front of you, the absolute first priority is to maintain absolute calm and avoid panicking or running away abruptly. Refrain from making loud noises or sudden movements, as your agitation can make the reptile feel threatened, prompting it to strike in self-defense. Always exercise restraint, assess the surroundings, and respond with controlled movements to ensure the animal does not perceive you as a direct danger.
Always maintain a safe distance of at least 6 to 8 feet whenever you spot a snake nearby, effectively preventing it from launching any sudden attack. The closer you remain to the reptile, the higher the risk of a defensive strike, making spatial distance your primary shield. Furthermore, never attempt to provoke the snake, strike it with a stick, or try to capture it by yourself. Provide the animal with a clear and unobstructed path so it can slither away peacefully without feeling cornered or terrified.
In situations where a snake comes extremely close to your position, avoid sprinting away suddenly and instead back up slowly and cautiously. Throughout this movement, ensure that your eyes remain fixed on the snake so it never slips out of your field of vision. If you happen to encounter a cobra, avoid making direct eye contact with it and stand completely still. Should a snake get trapped inside a house or an enclosed space from where it cannot escape, never attempt to handle or remove it personally; instead, immediately contact a professional wildlife rescue team or notify the forest department.
Immediate Steps to Take in Case of a Snakebite
If a person is unfortunately bitten by a snake, panic must be avoided at all costs since anxiety accelerates the spread of venom through the bloodstream. Keep the patient completely calm, still, and resting quietly to minimize movement and slow down venom circulation. Transport the patient to a hospital immediately without wasting any precious time so they can receive timely medical treatment and antivenom administration. Steer completely clear of superstitious practices or local faith healers, as resorting to such methods only wastes critical time and jeopardizes the patient's survival.
