A man accused of brutally murdering his friend by slitting his throat in the Saadatganj locality of Lucknow has been arrested following an encounter with the police. The confrontation occurred on Sunday night in the Dubagga area, resulting in a gunshot wound to the leg of the suspect, identified as Uzaifa. Following the encounter, law enforcement personnel took him into custody and transported him to a government hospital for medical treatment. The arrest came approximately 24 hours after the deadly assault on his friend Rehan, after which the suspect had remained on the run.
Violent Assault Near Ambedkar Park in Saadatganj
The sequence of events began on Saturday night around 9:30 PM near Ambedkar Park in the Azad Nagar area, located within the jurisdiction of Saadatganj police station. The victim, Rehan, a resident of Ramnagar and son of Munshi, was attacked with a knife. According to allegations, Uzaifa, son of Parvez and a resident of Gulab Ki Bagiya in Mauzzamnagar, attacked his friend Rehan directly on his neck. The severe strike left Rehan critically wounded, and he collapsed on the spot due to heavy bleeding.
Victim Succumbed During Treatment at KGMU
Immediately following the violent incident, Rehan was rushed to the Trauma Centre at King George's Medical University, also known as KGMU. Despite medical intervention by attending doctors, the injuries proved fatal, and he died during the course of treatment. Immediately following the murder, Uzaifa fled the scene. Video footage showing his escape surfaced shortly afterward, prompting police personnel to launch an intensive search operation across multiple locations.
Encounter Near the Water Tank in Dubagga
On Sunday night, police units received specific actionable intelligence indicating that the fugitive suspect was moving near the water tank in the Dubagga area. Police teams mobilized rapidly and moved to cordon off the perimeter to prevent his escape. During the operation, an encounter broke out between the suspect and the police team. Uzaifa sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, rendering him unable to flee, whereupon the police successfully placed him under arrest.
Interrogation Underway to Recover Murder Weapon and Motive
The injured suspect is currently receiving medical care under official custody. Investigating officers are preparing to question him extensively to establish the underlying cause of the dispute between the two friends. Authorities are also focusing on recovering the specific weapon used during the fatal attack.
