Gangster Neeraj Bawania Visits Hospital on Parole

Delhi Police escorted high-risk gangster Neeraj Bawania on a six-hour parole to visit his ailing wife and hospitalized newborns, during which he expressed anguish over being denied regular bail.

Neeraj Bawania, one of Delhi's most notorious and high-risk gangsters, was recently escorted by Delhi Police to his home and a hospital under heavy security. The court had granted him a six-hour parole to visit his ailing wife and newborn children admitted to a medical facility. While looking at his newborn daughter battling for life on a ventilator inside the hospital, he broke down and questioned the lack of humanity. He stated that one of his children had already died, another was fighting for survival on a ventilator, and a third was on CPAP support, yet the judicial system refused to grant him relief.

Imprisoned in Tihar Jail Over Gang Warfare

Notorious for orchestrating violent gang wars across the Delhi-NCR region, Bawania has spent several years behind bars inside Delhi's Tihar Jail. He had moved an interim bail application seeking to take care of his wife, whose health suddenly deteriorated, and their three premature infants. However, considering his dangerous criminal background and high-risk status, the court rejected his plea for interim bail. Instead, the authorities permitted a heavily guarded six-hour parole so he could briefly meet his family members.

Police Escort to Home and Private Hospital

On Thursday, he was brought out under tight police protection to meet his relatives. Initially, he was taken to his residence in Hari Nagar, where he met his wife. Following that, police officers drove him to a private hospital in Moti Nagar, where his newborn daughter was on life support. Speaking to reporters during the visit, he appealed to basic human empathy, pointing out that one child had perished and another was fighting for life, but the court still showed no leniency. He highlighted that he has already spent over 11 years in custody for the case in which he is currently serving time.

Frustration Over Legal Delays and Imprisonment

Voicing his grievances, he remarked that the legal system offered no support and that basic human compassion was missing from the process. He claimed that neither was his case fast-tracked nor was any humanitarian relief granted given the critical condition of his children. He added that while a life sentence typically spans 14 years, he had already served 11 years without a formal final sentence conclusion in the matter.

Reasons Behind the Rejection of Bail Pleas

Bawania had previously approached the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail to look after his family. However, citing security concerns, potential threats of gang violence, and his classification as a high-risk prisoner, the judiciary dismissed the plea. Before the High Court ruling, the sessions court had also turned down his request for temporary release. Defense counsels had informed the bench that his wife delivered triplets during the 27th week of pregnancy. Tragically, one infant passed away immediately at birth, while the surviving two infants were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a private hospital in Moti Nagar.
