A major crackdown on illegal firearms in the coaching hub of Kota, Rajasthan, led to the apprehension of three notorious criminals, including an active history-sheeter. The operation was carried out jointly by the Jawahar Nagar police station team and the District Special Team. Officers intercepted the suspects in the Ghora Basti and Durga Basti zones, recovering a cache of five illegal country-made pistols alongside five live rounds of ammunition. Police records reveal that the arrested trio faces a combined total of thirty-seven criminal cases across multiple jurisdictions.
Tactical Cordon Laid in Ghora Basti Following Intelligence
The arrests were made under Operation H.A.W.K, a targeted campaign aimed at curbing the proliferation of unlicensed weapons in the state. Acting on precise intelligence supplied by the District Special Team regarding armed movement in the Ghora Basti area, police personnel mobilized swiftly. The inputs indicated that the gang leader was roaming the streets with two armed associates. Law enforcement cordoned off all potential escape routes and executed a coordinated raid, preventing the armed suspects from fleeing the spot.
Suspects and Arms Recovery Breakdown
A thorough search conducted on the suspects right after their detention revealed concealed firearms and ammunition distributed among all three members. The individual details of the arrested men and the recoveries are as follows
- Kamal alias Chauka (28): A resident of Ghora Basti and a listed history-sheeter at Jawahar Nagar police station, found carrying 2 country pistols and 2 live cartridges.
- Sameer Ansari alias Ganjya (25): A resident of Mohanlal Sukhadia Colony in Nanta, from whose possession 2 country pistols and 2 live cartridges were seized.
- Kohinoor (21): A resident of Ghora Basti, found with 1 country pistol and 1 live cartridge.
All weapons and ammunition were formally confiscated under relevant legal provisions, and the trio was taken into custodial arrest.
Gang Motive: Area Dominance and Street Crime
During preliminary custodial interrogation, the suspects disclosed that the firearms had been procured to settle scores arising from local rivalries and to cement their dominance in the neighbourhood. The gang also intended to use these lethal weapons during street robberies and related criminal activities to intimidate targets. Investigators are currently questioning the trio to identify the arms trafficking conduit that supplied these weapons and to track local sympathizers or buyers linked to their network.
Extensive Criminal Antecedents of the Trio
The three suspects possess lengthy police records involving serious violent offenses. Kamal alias Chauka has 16 criminal cases registered against him covering assault, criminal intimidation, arms possession, and narcotics trafficking. Sameer Ansari alias Ganjya is named in 15 different criminal proceedings across regional police stations. The youngest member, twenty-one-year-old Kohinoor, has 6 cases registered in his name. Investigators are moving to secure police remand from the court to unearth the broader supply pipeline behind these unlicensed firearms.
