Security forces operating in Manipur achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing drive against illegal insurgent activities by arresting six suspected cadres of the banned United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK). The arrests, which included a minor, were executed across multiple locations in Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts. Official details indicate that the operations were carried out on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by specialized commando units acting on targeted intelligence.
Details of Apprehended Individuals and Locations
Among those taken into custody was 51-year-old P Koireng Singh, who was intercepted near the Koirengei Forest Gate situated in Imphal West district. Investigation revealed that Singh is employed as a gardener within the state Forest Department. In another targeted action, security personnel apprehended 24-year-old Elangbam Rabikumar Singh from the Mantripukhri area. Rabikumar, originally hailing from Hiyanglam Warkhong in Kakching district, was temporarily residing in rented premises at Mantripukhri when officers moved in.
Seizure of Official Stationery and Confessions
During the search of the suspects, security personnel recovered 23 official letterheads belonging to the UPPK outfit. Official statements wrote on X confirmed that during initial questioning, the accused confessed to active participation in criminal operations involving kidnapping, extortion, and systemic intimidation of local residents and merchants.
Joint Search Operations and Destruction of Bunkers
In a separate tactical operation, a combined contingent of Manipur Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel conducted a cordon-and-search drive along the Taphou Kuki and Taphou Liangmai stretch spanning Kangpokpi and Senapati districts. The joint force seized two SBBL firearms, 78 live rounds of 12-bore ammunition, alongside spent shell casings of AK-47 and.22 calibre rounds. Furthermore, troops dismantled three illegal bunker structures in the zone, comprising two bunkers in Taphou Kuki and one in Taphou Liangmai.
