The Mata Ka Than police station in Jodhpur has arrested three members of the Sikligar gang involved in a series of vehicle thefts and house burglaries across the city. The inter-state gang followed a distinct modus operandi of stealing motorcycles to survey deserted neighborhoods, identifying locked residences, and carrying out burglaries. During initial questioning, the arrested individuals confessed to stealing two motorcycles and breaking into four locked houses in Jodhpur.
Vehicle Theft in Bhadwasiya Triggered the Probe
The investigation began following an incident on August 24, when Bhadwasiya resident Anil Maurya lodged a formal complaint at the Mata Ka Than police station. Maurya reported that at around 5:38 AM, three unidentified men broke the lock of his motorcycle parked outside his home and rode away with it. Police officers promptly arrived at the spot and began analyzing recorded footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity. The surveillance video captured three young men in the act of stealing the two-wheeler.
Police Hunt Across Hotels and Dharamshalas Led to Arrests
Armed with the CCTV footage and technical evidence, the police launched a targeted search operation to track down the suspects. As part of the crackdown, police teams conducted thorough inspections across local hotels, inns, and dharamshalas throughout Jodhpur. The search led investigators to three suspects hailing from Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh. Police apprehended the trio and brought them in for interrogation, where they admitted their involvement in multiple thefts. The arrested suspects have been identified as 28-year-old Romi Sikligar, 30-year-old Badal Singh, and 26-year-old Vinod Singh, all residents of Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh.
Modus Operandi: Stolen Bikes Used for Recce and Quick Escapes
Interrogation revealed how the Sikligar gang executed their burglaries without leaving an immediate trace. Upon entering a city, the suspects would first steal a motorcycle from a secluded area. Riding the stolen vehicle, they scouted quiet residential neighborhoods to spot unoccupied houses with locked doors. Once a target was selected, they broke the locks and stole cash and valuables. To evade law enforcement, the gang abandoned the stolen motorcycle in an isolated location immediately after the crime and fled to another city, making it difficult for police to trace their whereabouts.
Ongoing Interrogation and Criminal Background Check
Following the arrests, the Mata Ka Than police are continuing their interrogation to determine if the gang was involved in other unsolved housebreakings and vehicle thefts in Jodhpur. Law enforcement officials expect the investigation to yield crucial information regarding other potential gang members and accomplices. Police are also auditing the past criminal records of the accused across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to map out their broader network.
