A horrifying double murder took place in the Roorkee area of Haridwar district, Uttarakhand, just before the festival of Rakshabandhan. A man shot and killed his two biological sisters at separate locations in the town. During the violent spree, the younger sister's husband was also struck by a bullet in the shoulder and has been rushed to a hospital in Rishikesh for urgent medical care. The sensational killings created widespread panic across the Roorkee region. Responding swiftly to the emergency, officers from the Gangnahar Kotwali police station formed multiple tactical teams and apprehended the accused brother, identified as Vivek. Authorities noted that the accused displayed complete absence of remorse during questioning.
Premeditated Attack After Systematic Surveillance
Police investigations revealed that the dual homicide was not an impulsive act but a meticulously planned crime. The suspect executed the attacks on Tuesday evening between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Because his sisters resided in two different areas, Vivek performed detailed reconnaissance prior to the assault. He closely tracked the movements and daily routines of both sisters over a period of time. Once fully prepared, he procured a firearm along with live ammunition in advance. He then navigated to both locations systematically to carry out the fatal shootings according to his predetermined plan.
Broken Marriage Proposal and Resentment Cited as Motive
During interrogation at the Gangnahar Kotwali police station, Vivek disclosed the reasons behind the crime. He told investigators that he harbored intense hatred toward both sisters and consistently questioned their moral conduct. The accused claimed that his own wedding had previously been finalized, but the match was called off specifically due to the reputation of his sisters. He held them directly responsible for ruining his marriage prospects, which fueled deep resentment over time. Driven by this grudge, Vivek admitted he was waiting for an opportune moment to strike, eventually choosing the eve of Rakshabandhan to carry out the killings.
Details of the Victims and Condition of the Injured
The two deceased sisters lived under different personal circumstances. The elder sister, Sangeeta, resided separately with her son. The younger sister, Pushpa, had no children and lived with her husband in a rented residence located in the Subhash Nagar neighborhood of Roorkee. Vivek first targeted Sangeeta before heading to Subhash Nagar to attack Pushpa. When Pushpa's husband tried to intervene during the assault, Vivek opened fire on him as well, wounding him in the shoulder. Emergency personnel transferred the injured husband to a Rishikesh hospital for treatment, while police containment units successfully tracked down and took Vivek into custody.
