A shocking daylight shooting incident unfolded in the Burla police station jurisdiction of Sambalpur district in Odisha on Saturday, resulting in the tragic death of a 36-year-old man. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Anees. According to initial findings by law enforcement, the violent episode stems from a personal dispute and a long-standing individual rivalry between the parties involved. Preliminary police investigations have not uncovered any alternative motive behind the crime so far, and authorities are conducting a thorough probe to examine all related aspects of the case.
Accused fired from close range in public view
Following the incident, local police swiftly detained the suspect involved in the crime. The accused has been identified as Raja Swami, a resident of Mangal Bazar in Jharsuguda. He has been kept at the Burla police station, where he is currently undergoing sustained interrogation. A video capturing the horrific incident has also gone viral on social media platforms, clearly showing the perpetrator opening fire at the victim in the middle of a busy marketplace. Police stated that the full picture of the events will become entirely clear only after the formal investigation reaches its conclusion.
Police recover weapon and confirm personal dispute
Authorities have successfully recovered the firearm used in the commission of the crime. Police officials have also clarified that, based on preliminary assessments, the matter appears strictly confined to a personal disagreement between the individuals concerned. There are currently no indications suggesting that the attack was directed at ordinary citizens or that it poses any broader threat to public safety in the region.
Additional SP details the sequence of events
The Additional SP of Sambalpur shared detailed information regarding the incident, stating that Mohammad Anees operated a meat shop located at the Tinibha Chowk in Burla. Raja Swami, a 25-year-old resident of Jharsuguda district, worked at his shop. The two individuals harbored a personal enmity toward each other. Around 11 am on Saturday, Raja shot Anees from a very close range using a country-made pistol. Initial medical examinations indicate that Anees sustained three bullet wounds. While Anees was rushed to the government hospital in Burla, the accused Raja was taken into custody immediately. Police investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
