A fatal shooting triggered by a long-standing feud unfolded in Haryana's Gurugram when three armed assailants on a motorcycle targeted a youth, ultimately murdering his 40-year-old father instead. The deceased, identified as Mahendra, was traveling on a two-wheeler with his son Sahil when the gunmen ambushed them on the road. The incident highlights a brutal act of gang revenge tied to a previous homicide case in the region.
Morning Ambush Near Basai Village
According to law enforcement authorities, the gunfire occurred at approximately 9:15 AM near Basai village. Mahendra and his son Sahil were riding their motorcycle when three men aboard another motorcycle forcibly intercepted their path. Without warning, one of the riders drew a pistol and fired directly into Mahendra's abdomen. The attackers immediately sped away from the scene following the shooting. Mahendra was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. A video related to the incident has also surfaced and is currently being reviewed by investigators.
Revenge Plot Rooted in Earlier Homicide
Sahil, who survived the attack uninjured, alleged that the gunmen had actually targeted him to settle an ongoing grudge, but ended up shooting his father. Sahil stated that the conflict dates back to January 2025 and named Dev, Bunty, and an unidentified individual with a covered face as the perpetrators. The roots of the feud trace back to the murder of a teenager named 'Buddy' in January 2025, whose body was discovered near Dwarka. Mahendra's other son, Priyanshu, was named as an accused in that case and remains incarcerated in jail. Sahil maintained that associates of 'Buddy' carried out this deadly shooting as a retaliation effort to avenge their friend's death.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
Following the crime, police personnel dispatched teams to secure the area and initiate a formal probe. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Y. V. R. Shashi Shekhar confirmed that preliminary investigations point to violent personal enmity as the primary motive behind the attack. A case has been registered at the Sector-9A police station, and officers are actively reviewing local CCTV footage to trace the escape route of the suspects. The DCP stated that several suspects have already been identified and that active raids are underway across multiple locations to apprehend the culprits swiftly.
