Security forces in Manipur have achieved a major breakthrough as the Assam Rifles successfully apprehended a senior cadre belonging to the banned United Kuki National Army (UKNA) outfit. The operation was carried out in the Churachandpur district based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of armed group members in the region.
Details of the October 13 Arrest
According to official details released regarding the mission, the suspect was taken into custody on October 13 from D Vaison village. During the search operation, security personnel recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, five live cartridges, a smartphone, a handheld radio, and several other war-like stores. Authorities also seized two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with various other suspected materials intended for subversive activities.
Extortion and Arms Smuggling Allegations
Security agencies have stated that the detained individual was actively involved in multiple illegal undertakings on behalf of the banned outfit. These unlawful activities included extortion, raising funds through illegal channels, smuggling weapons, and recruiting new cadres into the organization. Such operations by armed factions have been a persistent challenge for regional stability and public safety.
Spear Corps Led Operation
The mission was executed by personnel of the Assam Rifles operating under the Spear Corps. This action formed part of ongoing broader initiatives designed to curb the influence of armed factions and disrupt their unauthorized operations across the area. Continuous intelligence gathering and targeted raids remain key components of the security strategy in the region.
Transfer to Local Police
Following the apprehension, the suspect, alongside the recovered weapons and seized items, was handed over to the Churachandpur Police Station for the initiation of further legal proceedings. This development unfolds amidst intensified security measures across Manipur aimed at neutralizing banned outfits, curbing the illegal movement of arms, stopping extortion rackets, and addressing unlawful recruitment.
