A bizarre and shocking criminal case has emerged from Mumbai, where a fugitive evading the law for more than three decades has finally been caught by the police. The entire incident dates back to 1990, when a dispute on a cricket field escalated to an attempted murder after a batter attacked an umpire over a contentious decision. The police had been hunting for the accused for a long time, and he was finally cornered through technical surveillance and a twist of fate during local inquiries. Law enforcement authorities are currently continuing their legal proceedings and further questioning of the accused.
Violent Clash Erupted Over 1990 Cricket Match
The incident took place in the Borivali area of Mumbai during a local cricket tournament held in 1990. Tension flared on the field when the umpire declared the batsman on the crease out LBW. This decision infuriated the batter, leading to a heated argument between the two. Losing his temper and control, the batter attacked the umpire on the head with a cricket bat. The brutal assault left the umpire seriously injured, following which the accused fled from the spot and remained in hiding to evade law enforcement for years.
Attempted Murder Case Registered By Police
Immediately after the brutal attack on the umpire during the match, a formal complaint was lodged with the authorities. Based on the medical report and the victim's statement, the Borivali police registered a serious criminal case against the accused. The police filed charges under Section 307 for attempted murder and Section 34 of the IPC. Ever since the incident, the accused had been hiding at various locations by changing his identity and successfully stayed off the police radar, keeping the cold case alive for decades.
Wanted Fugitive Stumbled Upon During Local Inquiry
Recently, the Crime Prevention Squad revived the decades-old pending case and initiated a technical investigation. With the help of the Sanchar Saathi portal, the police tracked a mobile number registered in the name of the accused, whose live location was traced to Mira Road. A police team immediately rushed to Mira Road and began making inquiries with local residents about the suspect. In a surprising twist, the very person whom the police were asking the locals about turned out to be the fugitive Omprakash Pasi himself. The police promptly detained him, and during questioning, he allegedly confessed to his role in the 1990 cricket incident.
