A heated altercation over moving a parked vehicle escalated into severe violence and public intimidation in the Premnagar area of Dehradun, leading to the arrest of three individuals. Following the circulation of viral video footage showing men brandishing a firearm and a wooden stick on a public road, local law enforcement swiftly moved in to detain members from both involved groups. Officers also seized a licensed.32 bore pistol, five live rounds of ammunition, a wooden stick, and a Fortuner SUV connected to the conflict.
Origin of the Road Rage Escalation
The disturbance took place on Friday night near Next Hostel when a disagreement flared up between individuals in two separate vehicles regarding road space. CCTV footage and social media clips from the location captured one man attacking with a wooden stick while another individual pulled out a handgun to threaten opponents. Law enforcement officials analyzed local surveillance video and questioned nearby eyewitnesses to trace the individuals involved in the violent brawl.
Suspects Apprehended from Hospital Premises
During preliminary questioning, police identified and detained Gaurav, a resident of Jhajhra. Gaurav disclosed that he had asked the driver of a Fortuner car to shift the vehicle to clear the street. The request triggered a confrontation, prompting Gaurav to strike with a wooden stick. In response, Fortuner driver Neeraj Rajput and his companion Manish Negi retaliated by drawing a licensed firearm, verbally abusing Gaurav, and physically assaulting him.
Upon learning that Neeraj and Manish had gone to Graphic Era Hospital for medical treatment following the scuffle, police personnel immediately dispatched a team to the hospital campus and took both men into custody. The licensed pistol and five live rounds used during the altercation were recovered directly from their possession.
Legal Action and Recommendation for License Cancellation
A formal criminal case has been registered against all three individuals at the Premnagar police station. Charges include committing violence in a public area, breaching public peace, endangering human lives with deadly weapons, and misusing a licensed firearm. Police confirmed that the seized.32 bore weapon was legally licensed under Neeraj Rajput's name. A formal report has been submitted to the District Magistrate recommending the immediate revocation of his gun license.
