Law enforcement authorities have intensified their crackdown on a massive fraud involving promises of securing government recognition for private schools in Tamil Nadu. The Central Crime Branch of the Chennai Police carried out a series of intensive raids across various locations in the Kallakurichi district as part of an ongoing probe that continues to widen.
Raids at Relatives' Premises of Fugitive Accused
During the special search operations conducted on Saturday, investigating teams targeted four distinct locations connected to the relatives of the absconding primary accused, Muthukumar. Officials searched the residences of Saravanan and Ramesh, along with the house and shop of Gokulkrishnan in the Kallakurichi district. Over the course of this operation, law enforcement seized approximately 30 crucial documents, including various bank-related records.
Fraudulent Operations Through Global 360 Degree Firm
According to an official press release issued in connection with the case, the main accused Muthukumar operated a firm named 'Global 360 Degree' located in the T. Nagar area of Chennai. Investigators allege that he falsely promised school managements to secure official recognition from the Tamil Nadu School Education Department while extorting money from them.
Three Accused Already Arrested
As the CCB delved deeper into the financial transactions, it was uncovered that Muthukumar's relative Saravanan acted as his accomplice in these illicit dealings. Following a formal complaint registered before the Commissioner of Police, the CCB registered a case and initiated proceedings. Three individuals namely B.T. Arsakumar, Suresh, and Raja have already been arrested in connection with the matter.
Searches Extend to Former Minister's Premises
Based on the evidence gathered thus far during the ongoing investigation, proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act have also been initiated against the former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Demonstrating the extensive scale of the probe, the CCB previously conducted searches on September 16 across 9 locations associated with the former minister and his associates in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli.
