A bizarre theft unfolded in Jaipur when a female customer visited a jewelry establishment under the pretext of purchasing a ring and fled with a box filled with gold ornaments valued at approximately twenty lakh rupees. The suspect was subsequently apprehended by the shopkeeper and his associate after a brief chase and handed over to local law enforcement. This incident took place on September 3 at around twelve in the afternoon at Bhavani Jewellers located on Niru Road.
The Escape With the Jewelry Box
According to initial details, the box contained more than twenty-five gold rings with a combined worth of around twenty lakh rupees. The woman entered the shop and asked to see various ring designs. The shopkeeper Trilokchand Prajapat handed her the display box containing the items. Taking advantage of a momentary lapse in attention, the suspect grabbed the box, rushed out of the premises, and started running. Realizing the theft had occurred, the owner immediately raised an alarm and gave chase.
Apprehension After a Short Chase
The shopkeeper Trilokchand Prajapat along with his colleague pursued the fleeing woman. Both men managed to intercept and catch her roughly five hundred meters away from the store. The stolen jewelry box was successfully recovered from her possession intact. Following her capture, the shopkeeper escorted her to the Jhotwara police station and turned her over for formal legal proceedings.
Surveillance Footage Captures the Act
Closed-circuit television cameras installed inside the establishment recorded the entire sequence of events from the moment the suspect stepped inside until she ran off with the container. The footage clearly shows her searching for the right opportunity while browsing the ornaments before bolting out the door with the goods. Investigators are utilizing this visual evidence to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Chili Powder and Spray Found in Purse
Upon searching her handbag after the apprehension, authorities discovered chili powder and a defensive spray inside. This recovery prompted law enforcement to investigate whether she had prepared to counter any resistance during the execution of the theft. During subsequent questioning by police officers, the woman stated that she committed the act deliberately because she wanted to go to jail. Authorities are continuing their probe and taking further action based on her statements.
