A family in Delhi's New Usmanpur locality was left shaken on Sunday afternoon after seven to eight unidentified men forced their way into their house and held them hostage for hours. Before fleeing, the attackers made off with nearly Rs 9 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery, triggering panic across the neighbourhood. Word of the robbery spread quickly, leaving local residents stunned and setting off anxious discussions across the area.
Police alerted around 3:22 pm
According to police, the New Usmanpur police station received information about the robbery at around 3:22 in the afternoon. A police team rushed to the spot as soon as the call came in and recorded details of the incident from the complainant, Harish Chander, a resident of Gali No. 2 in New Usmanpur, where the house is located.
One man entered on a pretext, then 7 to 8 others followed
Initial investigation revealed that around 1:18 pm, a man arrived at the house on the pretext of some work. Within moments, seven to eight unidentified accomplices barged in behind him. Police said the attackers overpowered the family members present in the house, seized the cash and valuable jewellery, and then fled the scene. Investigators believe the gang had scouted the house in advance before carrying out the robbery.
Forensic team gathers evidence, multiple teams formed
Given the seriousness of the crime, police immediately called in a forensic team, which collected crucial evidence from the spot. A case has been registered, and several teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
CCTV footage being scanned to trace the escape route
Investigators are going through footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area in an effort to trace the route the attackers used to flee. Police officials say the accused are expected to be arrested soon and the case cracked.
Father accused of raping minor daughter in Jahangirpuri
Separately, a serious case has emerged from Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi, where a man has been accused of raping his own 14 year old daughter. Police have registered a case against him under the relevant sections along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a law specifically meant to protect minors from sexual abuse. The accused father is currently absconding, and police are searching for him.
Assault took place when mother and brother were away, threats of murder made
As per the FIR filed at Mahendra Park police station, the victim said that on July 7, when her mother and her 10 year old brother were not at home, her father raped her. She has also alleged that he threatened to kill both her and her mother if she told anyone about the incident.
