Public access to the Central Park in New Delhi's Connaught Place will remain suspended on October 16 and October 17, 2026. The New Delhi Municipal Council issued the directive citing administrative grounds, arriving right before a planned demonstration organised under the banner of Citizens for Justice and Peace.
Administrative Order Restricts Entry
A formal notification released by the NDMC director confirmed that the facility will be out of bounds for general visitors across both dates. The measure was initiated following the announcement of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march led by Abhijeet Dipke, prompting authorities to secure the perimeter and pre-empt logistical challenges in the busy commercial district.
High Court Declines Stay on Demonstration
Legal challenges were mounted against the scheduled October 16 gathering, with petitioners approaching the Delhi High Court seeking an immediate prohibition. While the bench agreed to hear the matter, it refused to grant an injunction restraining the demonstration. Crucially, the court left operational decisions in the hands of the Delhi Police, permitting law enforcement officers complete latitude to manage crowd density, preserve public order, and regulate traffic flow.
Security Deployment Across Inner Circle
Connaught Place witnesses substantial commuter traffic and shopper footfall daily, making any mass assembly a major concern for traffic authorities. With the Central Park gates closed under municipal orders, police personnel are stepping up monitoring across surrounding avenues to ensure daily commercial activities continue without disruption.
