Delhi High Court has taken a firm stand on the building collapse in Satya Niketan, southwest Delhi, issuing notices to the MCD and the Delhi government. The court made it clear that authorities cannot walk away from responsibility for the tragedy. Calling the incident deeply unfortunate, the bench directed officials to speed up the relief and rescue operation so that people trapped under the debris could be pulled out as quickly as possible.
Court's sharp remarks
During the hearing, the High Court noted that around 50 students' lives are at stake, with some of them still buried under the rubble. The bench observed that nothing could be more tragic than this situation and directly asked officials what steps were being taken to prevent such accidents from happening again.

Following this assurance, the court pressed officials to intensify the rescue operation further and use every possible means available to save lives.
How the accident happened
On Sunday, a five-storey building in Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi suddenly collapsed. Repair work was reportedly underway in the building's basement at the time it came down. Seven people have died in the accident so far. The upper floors of the building housed a PG accommodation where several students lived while studying. Since it was a Sunday, most of the students were in their rooms at the time rather than out, which added to the scale of the tragedy.
Rescue operation continues
Rescue teams are still working at the site, searching the debris for survivors so that anyone still trapped can be pulled out safely. Following the High Court's tough stance, officials are expected to further speed up the relief and rescue effort while accountability is also worked out.
