A senior doctor from the anesthesia department at Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital in Delhi was found dead inside his duty room on the morning of July 5, 2026, in a case that has left colleagues and police searching for answers. The alert reached Civil Lines police station through PCR call number 25A, and when officers arrived at the hospital, they learned that Dr. Simranpreet Singh Anand, who held the post of Senior Resident, or SR, had died inside duty room number 109.
Who was Dr. Simranpreet Singh Anand
Dr. Simranpreet Singh Anand, aged around 35, belonged to Ludhiana in Punjab. He had been working in the anesthesia department of the same hospital for the past 3 years. On the night the incident occurred, between July 4 and July 5, he was on night duty at the hospital. That duty shift began at 8 pm and was scheduled to run until 8 am the next morning.
Why colleagues grew suspicious
When Dr. Simranpreet did not step out of his room even after his shift ended at 8 am, his colleagues sensed something was wrong. They first tried calling his phone, but there was no answer. They then knocked on the door, and again there was no response. The matter was reported to the hospital administration without delay. Around 9 am, the door was finally broken open, and the doctor was found unconscious on the bed inside. He was rushed to the emergency ward, where the doctors on duty declared him dead.
During the initial examination, a cannula was found fixed in the deceased doctor's left hand. According to police, the cannula had been inserted around 10 pm the previous night by a technician assistant, at Dr. Simranpreet's own request. A syringe and empty medicine vials were recovered from the room, and a suicide note along with a diary was found inside a black bag kept in the same room.
What the suicide note said
In the three-page note, the doctor wrote that he was taking his own life by his own choice. He also mentioned his affair with a woman doctor who has been working as SR in the same hospital's anesthesia department for the past 2 years. He wrote that the two of them belonged to different castes, and because of this, their families were not willing to accept their marriage. This unresolved family opposition appears to be at the centre of what pushed him to this extreme step.
Police and forensic teams investigate
Given the seriousness of the case, a district crime team along with a team from FSL Rohini reached the spot and carried out a detailed examination. Police have sealed the entire duty room to preserve evidence. The forensic team has collected several samples from the scene, which will now be examined closely. Police are also questioning hospital staff and other doctors posted there to piece together the complete sequence of events leading up to the doctor's death.
