Residents of Ladakh are set to receive major relief as the Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Jammu and Kashmir High Court bench in the Union Territory. The key decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Announcing the approval, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted that this move will ensure easier access to justice for the region's people and drastically cut down the time required for legal processes.
Major Relief for Remote Communities
Home Minister Amit Shah stated that citizens living in the far-flung and rugged terrains of Ladakh will no longer face arduous travel for legal matters. The presence of a dedicated High Court bench will save valuable time and financial resources for the local public. The central government remains fully committed to the comprehensive development of Ladakh, continuously reinforcing both administrative and judicial infrastructure.
Strengthening Regional Governance
This judicial initiative follows significant administrative restructuring across Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena previously approved the creation of five new districts, expanding the total count from two to seven. Following Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Ladakh and his interaction with Sonam Wangchuk, developmental efforts in the region have gained momentum, including the announcement of a 10,000 liter plant in Kargil. Establishing a High Court bench marks another crucial milestone in solidifying Ladakh's governance framework.
