Law enforcement in the capital has intensified its offensive against organized crime. In a significant breakthrough, the Special Staff arrested two heavily armed sharpshooters following a fierce encounter in the Outer District. The arrests highlight a broader, ongoing series of operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the city.
The Outer District Shootout
According to the police, the confrontation erupted when the Special Staff attempted to intercept the suspects. The criminals opened fire on the team, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense. During the ensuing crossfire, both suspects sustained bullet wounds to their legs. They were immediately taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Bahadurgarh Connection
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested duo was highly sought after in connection with a major violent crime. The two suspects were wanted for a brazen shooting incident at the residence of a property dealer in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, which took place on July 3. Authorities had been actively tracking their movements since that attack.
Operation Chakra and Anti-Gang Actions
This recent shootout is part of a massive city-wide crackdown by authorities. Through a targeted initiative called Operation Chakra, officers apprehended 11 thieves within just 72 hours, recovering 76 stolen vehicles that had been hidden in desolate areas, along with a cache of weapons. In a separate effort, authorities arrested three shooters associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who were allegedly plotting a major attack in the capital. The Crime Branch also recently apprehended six other shooters, seizing a significant number of firearms. Furthermore, the specialized AATS team arrested a wanted criminal named Irshad following a gunfight, and another notorious criminal known as 'Haddi' was captured after a similar encounter.
Traffic Relief for South Delhi Commuters
While operations continue to secure the streets, the city is also moving forward with crucial infrastructure upgrades. Residents of South Delhi can look forward to significant relief from chronic traffic congestion, as construction work on the Kalkaji and Savitri Cinema flyovers is scheduled to commence very soon. These new infrastructure projects are expected to streamline traffic flow and ease daily commutes across the entire region.
